How This System Works

This system applies to games where the starting pitcher's average pitch velocity over their last 10 starts exceeds 92.25 mph, their average pitch velocity over their last 5 starts is 92.9 mph or lower, and the team's Elo rating is at or below -78.635 and also at or below 20.915. These conditions together identify games featuring a pitcher whose velocity has declined from their 10-game average to their 5-game average, combined with a team that holds a negative Elo rating indicating they are weaker than their opponent.

Backs underdogs whose starting pitcher averages moderate velocity (92.25-92.9 mph over recent starts) when facing opponents with poor Elo ratings (below approximately +21).
